Core i5 or Core 2 duo Macbook pro?

I'm going off to college and I want to get the Macbook pro 15 inch core i5, but my relations thinks i only want that one because it's the newer journal. They think i should get the cheaper core 2 duo macbook pro.

I'm other using photoshop and video editing software such as pinnacle. I watch all my tv shows and movies on my computer. I will be a biology core and i was told i would be using some specific computer programs for my science classes. The internet and itunes are open 24/7.

What do you deliberate? Do i need to get the core i5 or is the Core 2 duo plenty for me?
Answers:
well, from your uses .. it wont make a difference surrounded by performance. (although the new i5 is super fast)

but another major difference is the battery life. if you obligation a longer lasting battery, you're better past its sell-by date with the new one :)

I bought the 13" macBook not long which has the best of the two worlds:

1- longer baterry
2- cheaper

scroll down to Intel Core i5 and second set of numbers is ranking. lower the number the better and the i5s are almost adjectives below 200.

scroll down further to Intel Core 2 Duo, almost all are above 200

i5s have twice the power of core 2 duos

Unless your taking your own devoted internet access with you, expect the internet to be very slow and some sites are probably blocked to backing with everyones internet access. We rarely have time to watch tv shows and movies at college. You sit down so much for classes and studying. Everyone wants to walk out and about and have fun.

core 2 duo is polite enough for you
have you checked to see is if those specific computer programs will even run on a Mac?
I bet those programs are not Mac compatible at adjectives.
Hey Dave, the one with i5 is right for you, I too use Photoshop and it runs so much better on a i5 which has 4 cores, whilst the core 2 duo is of late two cores, also if you are doing video editing it is much more important to get the i5, faster rendering and smaller amount lag, also if you are going to be using other Adobe products or multitasking then you should perversely get the i5, also the i5 has a turbo aspect where if you are using a one core program it will automatically overclock that single core, so if you want to persuade your relations to get the i5 one then use these facts:
.Reduced fill in video editing + faster rendering
.i5 has four cores, whilst the Core 2 duo have 2
.i5 are more smarter
.Photoshop runs smoother
.Overall faster performance
And the answer to your question again is the i5, it is influential for your requirements, good luck and enjoy your Macbook Pro!
How much cheaper? The i5 is a lot faster than the Core2Duo. I would take the i7 if it was available. I would get core i5
