Laptop repair/security interrogate?

I need to take my laptop surrounded by to get repaired. I have profusely of sensitive/personal information on it. What would be the best way to protect my privacy? I thought of putting a password on my user account and creating a guest reason for the repair shop. I am still running windows XP, I'm not sure how strong XP's protection
is.

To back up, remove, next restore all the data would be too time consuming for me.

Does anyone hold any suggestions?
Answers:
You will have to trust the technician. any repair tech worth his salt isn't going to be poking around within your system looking at things and neither will he have time to do it. Furthermore if they are a decent tech the deposit on the pc would be a moot point as they would be skilled at bypassing it. Think of it this way.. why are at hand locksmiths? because locks only keep honest relations out.

If you don't trust them, don't take it to them. Source(s): PC repair tech and been working on/with computers for 25+ years.
Those are the things that you really stipulation to do. Otherwise, it's really hard to have someone fixed it for you whom you don't trust. I suggest, research some deep-seated things on how you can make it not time consuming for you to "back up", "remove" and "restore" Source(s): www.thetalkmark.com
