Mobile Edge MESFBP ScanFast Backpack (Black) Reviews

4.0 out of 5 stars Functional and Durable November 29, 2008
This laptop backpack has lots of pockets for all of the accessories that must travel with a computer (power cords, mouse, etc.). The bag itself is a little larger than I would have expected but it does have to fit my 17" laptop. It is well pad. It lays flat for being x-rayed with the use of a single zipper. I would recommend this bag.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product March 23, 2009
This backpack is great. I have my 17 inch MacBook Pro inside a neoprene sleeve for extra protection (probably overkill) and it fits perfectly inside the computer pouch of the backpack. Zip it open and the pack lays flat on the xray belt at the airport. No hassles from the airport security and no more removing the computer from the bag. That within itself pays for this bag. One security agent thought I was removing my computer as I was unzipping it and when I just laid it flat he immediately recognized the symbol on the bag and the big letters "Checkpoint Friendly" on the pouch. We both chatted nearly the fact that you don't have the aggravation of removing the computer anymore. There are enough pockets to load all your other stuff as well. I tend to take along more than I really need. Fits easily into the overhead or lower than the seat. The material is strong and it carries comfortably well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Computer Backpack December 24, 2010
Looked for TSA approved computer backpacks at the mall, & found one in a luggage store for well over $200. Then came home and looked on-line at Amazon. This be a great looking bag on-line. It shipped INCREDIBLY fast and my husband LOVES it. If you're looking for a computer backpack this is the one you need. You won't beat the quality or the price!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great backpack for large laptops !! January 9, 2010
Replaced a Targus case. Room for everything and a Dell 17" laptop.
Carries well - nice straps. Supposedly "airport friendly" haven't tried that, yet.

3.0 out of 5 stars Convenient at surety, but inefficient space use January 8, 2009
This is one of the very few TSA approved Laptop bags that allow you pass airport security quickly. You just open a zipper and the bag flaps open beside one part holding the Laptop only and the other part holding whatever you put in the other compartments. It's easy to handle and saves indeed some hassle at the airport.
The downside of this bag is its inefficinet space use. It's a terribly large backpack (16 x 2 x 11.5 inches) and reserves unnecessarily ample space (about 16 x 1.5 x 11.5 inches) for the Laptop compartment. You are not allowed, however, to put anything else there, so a lot of space is lost. That's a pity because MobileEdge could have designed the Laptop compartment much slimmer which would have left more space for books, paper etc.
I also miss a strap at each side that support the zipper when your backpack is really stuffed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Two out of Three (Not Bad) January 1, 2009
This laptop backpack is great! It took me a while to numeral out what to put in all the pockets! The hidden bottle pocket is excellent, even though I didn't use it on my first trip. I went through three airports with my new backpack in December 2008. "ScanFast" and "Checkpoint Friendly" are very accurate terms (most of the time)! I lone had one TSA officer, at the Quad City International Airport (Moline, Illinois), ask me to take my laptop out of the backpack. I didn't argue with him, but I did tell him that he was the only one to request this out of several officers at three different airports who had seen the backpack. I pointed out the "Checkpoint Friendly" compartment, and told him just about the instructions that came with it, telling me not to put anything other than the laptop in that part of the backpack. He said more than once that TSA doesn't advertise the backpack, and that I would've been better off next to one of those laptop "sleeves." I just think he didn't get the memo!

4.0 out of 5 stars World traveling with my back pack January 24, 2009
I've only had the pack about a month and hold been to two countries on a hectic schedule. I am very pleased with the mobile edge backpack.
I especially like the laptop feature because all I have to do is put it on the table and unzip it. All of the other items (there are many) flip to the other side and the intact thing goes through the scanner easily. It also had a large label that tells the TSA agents that it approved so that stops unnecessary searches.
It is also much easier to put on and take bad than my previous pack. There are multiple pockets and the pack has so much storage space that I is difficult to find items at times.

The small, inside, pockets are handy for small items.

I expect to use this item for many years

2.0 out of 5 stars Only suitable for large laptops with no other accessories December 31, 2010
After a trial of trying to pack this with the items I would typically take on a short business trip, I returned this. Despite it being a large backpack, I couldn't find room for travel items.

Some of the pictures don't clash the bag I got--on close examinations, it looks like two different bags are shown in the photos in the product description. The photo shows a nice compartment for pens, &c.--the bag I got has a compartment but it doesn't break open as far as shown, only has a couple of loops for pens or pencils off to the side, and the loops are too tight to hold anything thicker than a cross pen.

The two small compartments on the back are very flat, and won't hold anything very bulky like noise cancel headphones or a laptop charger brick. Every other compartment is deep, with no internal divisions to prevent everything in them from falling to the bottom.

Pros: It will hold a large laptop, and let you unzip it and lay flat to run through an airport checkpoint.

Cons: It won't hold much else. I tried finding room for the other things I would travel with for an overnight trip: laptop charger, phone, media player, noise canceling earpiece, some magazines, water bottle, a granola bar, spare pen, a baggy with toothpaste, &c. I quickly ran out of room. I could have crammed everything into one of the deep compartments, but it would own all fallen to the bottom and been difficult to get at. Since I have a small laptop--I like to travel light--the space in the laptop compartment was mostly wasted. There's no internal compartmentation contained by there to put anything else in with it.

It seemed to be fairly sturdy construction. Might be okay for a student, carrying laptop and notebooks (but the lay flat feature is useless in that case.) It's only not very well thought out for a carry-on or overnight bag, however.

5.0 out of 5 stars TSA Laptop Bag December 12, 2008
I recently bought and travelled with this backpack and laptop through airport security. All the TSA agents loved it. In fact they thought it was so great, they stopped me and wrote down the brand and wanted to know where on earth I got it. Of course after going through the checkpoint without having to take my laptop out of the bag, they made me open it up to show them how my laptop fit it, the other compartments etc. There is a lot of space for all computer accessories, paperwork, and other carry-on items. It's prerry comfortable to fetch on your shoulders even when its heavy and crammed with stuff and it's nice to have you hands free to carry other items. Would definitely recommend for travelling.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great bag but too small for my 17.3" November 12, 2010
I loved this bag when I got it. It is all right made with lots of space and extra pockets. Plus I really wanted a backpack as the only time I will use it is for travel. Not on a daily basis. I tried to put my ASUS 17.3" laptop in it but it is not big enough. It fit the long way (16.5") but not the depth which is 12.5" and the pocket in this purse is only about 12" wide. I was very disappointed to have to return it. If you have a smaller laptop go for it!
