Case Logic VNC-216 16-Inch Laptop Briefcase (Black) Reviews

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Case for the Money and here's why... July 20, 2010
The Caselogic case is a great purchase for your laptop. It is made of sturdy material, it's not too heavy or bulky, and it has enough storage space to hold everything. This bag has a shoulder strap for portability or it has a handle where on earth you can tote it in your hands. It has enough space to hold your laptop, power supply cord, and supplies including pens, pencils, calculator, etc. If you are looking for a great laptop case for your money then look no further than the Caselogic VNC-218.

5.0 out of 5 stars This works great! June 18, 2010
I had bought a new Qosmio X505 laptop beside an 18.4 inch screen and needed a larger case. This case works great. It's easily large enough for the laptop as well as all the various peripherals. The rucksack itself has a nice feel.

A great buy.

1.0 out of 5 stars Carrying case, on the cheap August 1, 2010
This case logic bag is what I would call a computer case on the cheap. This bag is light immensity and would do in a pinch, but it is not a long term investment. One could get an oversized laptop into the center pouch, which provides a padded adjusted that can be adjusted for smaller laptops. For an inexpensive machine, this *could* work as a short term solution.

The bag is wispy weight, thinly padded and the materials are simply too thin to provide any level of protection. While the seams were all well sewn, I found that the shoulder strap clips (those clips that attach the strap to the daypack to be plastic with metal wire closers to look cheap. While the springs on these are tense, one side broke while trying to detach the strap. As a result, its in the trash.

I simply can not recommend this case if you can afford to buy a better one. As I said, this would work in a pinch as an emergency computer case, but it simply isn't what I would consider safe for a general purpose laptop.

4.0 out of 5 stars Basic run-of-the-mill laptop luggage August 18, 2010
The Caselogic 18-Inch Laptop Case is a decent and functional piece. Well made and large enough for an 18 inch laptop, in my opinion it seems to be best used by the casual traveler. Definitely too big for a college student and probably not enough depth for the business traveler.

The product description talks roughly speaking all the organizational tools the case has. Basically it has an outside pocket, which includes a couple of inner pouches, as well as an inside pocket for files and papers. The advantage is with the 18 inch length you do have a fair amount of room for storage. However, except the size there is really nothing different in this case versus any other laptop case I've had in the past.

Again, it is a well-made, functional laptop case. There is zilch special about it but nothing negative about it as well. At the current price I would say it's a goood value.

3.0 out of 5 stars Inferior to an older laptop case July 28, 2010
Our inherited has 2 laptops and one laptop case, so I ordered this one for the 2nd computer. I am comparing it to an old beat-up Dell laptop case. The Dell case wins.

Here are the differences:

1. The Dell case lets you secure the computer beside 2 straps. This Caselogic case has only 1 strap. The computer is less firmly secured and shifts around a little bit. It's no big deal, but the Dell case wins.

2. The Dell case, when you unzip the computer compartment, lift up to expose pockets of varying sizes. You can put lots of useful things in the pockets, like a satellite modem, thumb drives, business cards, pencils and pens. The Caselogic bag has a single mesh pocket in the computer area. If you want to access the accessory pockets, you obligation to turn the bag around and unzip it again which is slightly less convenient.

3. The Dell case has a large file-folder size pocket on the outside that closes with velcro. The Caselogic has a small, boarding-pass side pocket on the outside that zips.

So after trying them both for a few days, I decided I approaching the Dell case better.

5.0 out of 5 stars PERFECT FOR ALIENWARE M17XR2 October 13, 2010
I needed a lighter more compact case for my Alienware M17XR2. This massive lap top weights over 12lbs not including the 2lb power brick. Unlike the oversized Alienware bag with its multiple pockets, and areas, The Case Logic case has one main area for the laptop and a zippered nouns for thinner components like the power brick. For local transportation when I only need the laptop, brick, mouse and a few CD's this case is perfect. The zippers are strong, the material is strong and there is sufficient padding. The case is deeply light weight, which is what I wanted. Easy to carry with the shoulder strap which I rarely use since it is so easy to use the handle. I will use the BIG Alienware bag for long road trips or nouns travel. But for around the town transport the Case Logic is a perfect choice for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars For the On the Go Person August 26, 2010
I have to admit, when I first opened the box and took this bad boy out, I was appalled by the size. I've been trying to go smaller and smaller with everything I get around on a daily basis. My four-pound notebook computer looked almost lost in it.

Then, when I started adding in the notes, books, pens, mouse, external drive, earphones, and other accessories I take regularly, I was surprised again by how much the case held. Comfortably. Everything is easily laid out inside it, easy to get to and quick to hand. I love the outside entrance/pocket that allows me to get to some of my equipment without gap the case.

The case looks good and appears very durable. It stands up and provides good protection for the computer.

3.0 out of 5 stars Flimsy August 3, 2010
My 17" Lenovo Thinkpad fits, but it doesn't look very secure. I think they should have included 2 or even 3 velcro straps instead of freshly 1. One side of my laptop always seems to be moving around (since the laptop compartment is relatively deep). The bag itself also seems to bend a little when using the shoulder strap. Not too much, but it's noticeable.

Be aware that this is not a full sized suitcase. It's obvious, but thought I'd mention it. If you have a large laptop, at hand will not be much room for non-laptop related items. In my case, the laptop goes in the main compartment, while the front pocket contains the charger, a mouse, earphones, a small notepad, pens/pencils. There is no space for a college textbook. Look elsewhere for a case that has an extra large compartment if that's important to you.

However, here is a tight slot inside the laptop compartment where you can fit a magazine or a bunch of documents (it's probably meant for CDs, but since it's not zipped the CDs often slide out).

It's OK for occasionally carrying a laptop from point A to point B. However, IMO it's not robust enough to be your main everyday laptop case.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bare essentials laptop case August 18, 2010
The Caselogic VNC-218 is a pretty bare bones laptop satchel where the only real good point seems to be that it fits larger sized laptops. I have a Dell Inspiron 1720 (17") and the laptop fits quite comfortably inside, however with only a single velcro strap to hold the laptop down, it never really feel secure. I've noticed that in the product pictures included on Amazon, there isn't one showing the inside of the main compartment so I've uploaded one so you can take a look for yourself.

Once you look at the main compartment, one of the first things you notice is that there is individual a single black velcro strap for tying down the laptop, and in addition there is a soft foam "bumper" insert which can be modified in order to house smaller laptops. However this bumper doesn't really stop the laptop from sliding around inside the case, but rather just adds an extra division of cushioning.

Overall this is a pretty basic laptop case - the only factor which moved it from a 3 star to a 4 star review for me was that it's very light as far as weight is concerned. Granted the weight of many other laptop cases is due to abundantly of the durability additions which this case does not have, but it is nice to not have a laptop case which weighs 10lbs by itself for once.

5.0 out of 5 stars 25 yr quality guarantee, laptop case fits 17" to 18" laptops.... July 20, 2010
The Caselogic VNC-218 18-Inch Laptop Case (Black) is made to last and comes with a 25 year characteristic guarantee. It's everything you need a laptop case to be. You can put your valuables such as watch, keys, cell phone, etc. in the outside, zippered 'Speed Pocket,' prior to passing through airport security. Also, there's a luggage strap that attaches this case to most rolling luggage. The case have two large zippered compartments. One compartment features a panel with several different sized pockets, for your electronics, gadgets and accessories. Pocket sizes: one 10" x 4", two 4" x 4", one 1.5" x 2" & one 4" x 2" along with an approx. 18" x 5" mesh pocket. There's even a couple elastic loops to hold your pens. The other large, zippered compartment is the for your laptop; this section features a strap to save your laptop snug & a Velcro divider so you can adjust the compartment to better fit your laptop. Also there's a large, approx. 9" x 18.25" fabric pocket on the opposite side of the laptop. The carrying strap is very nicely padded as is the handle.

A lot of thought has been put into the design of this well-made baggage. 5 stars!
