GREAT BATTERY - WEIGHT VS EXTENDED BATTERY LIFE May 9, 2009I purchased this for a fresh ASUS EeePC 1000HA that I got for Christmas. It is wonderful to have the extended run time on this netbook, but some people would definitely be put off by the extra weight and bulk that it adds to their netbook. Personally, I have no problem with the size or the weightiness, but remember they might be of concern to you. Overall this is an great battery.
Works as Advertised August 17, 2010Haven't drained it dry yet, but seems likely to be good for 10 hours or more in my machine. Yes, it adds a little bulk. But it holds the baby grand at a more pleasant angle, too.
Best 50 Bucks I Have Ever Spent October 10, 2010I purchased this battery for a trip I was taking. It was a 9 hour plane ride and I had movies I wanted to watch on my netbook (an 1005HAB model with XP) so I picked this up. I have had this battery-operated for almost half a year now.
I didn't care so much about the extra weight as I have had full sized laptops in the past and adding together a tiny bit of weight and bulk to me was more than worth it if it meant getting more time. I have had 7 pound laptops (or LUG-TOPS as I like to call them due to their weight) that only have 1 to two hours of battery-operated life if you want to watch a movie on them at a decent brightness.
The extra bulk I don't mind too much either. It isn't enough to bother me, as I believe one other may have mentioned, it DOES give you a bit of a grip to hold on by when you are carrying the netbook around. My previous slipcase still fit. The bottom gets raised up a bit, almost a quarter to a half of an inch higher. A little more than a centimeter from the bottoms of the original rubber grips.
The rubber grips are actually the worst part of this design. They are two very tiny dots with glue so weak that I lost them in a week. I am thinking of getting a long strip of grip and gluing it on the entire length of the battery (which I have seen in ACTUAL extended life batteries before and liked profoundly, I have no idea why this one doesn't have that) and just gluing it on myself. This is something to consider if you work at a desk a lot and don't to rely on just the front grips. It's not something to not get the battery over, but its something to deem about for sure.
The life of this battery is where it very obviously shines. I have tried this out on many settings the EEE PC provides for battery natural life adjustment as well as changing how demanding my use is and how bright the screen is. I have found the following:
The range of life on this battery that I found was anywhere from 9 and a half hours adjectives the way to more than 14 hours. Now, don't look at that 9 hour mark and think this product isn't worth it. On my 9 hour test I was running my computer in performance mode with headphones and an external knotty drive while watching movies. The battery had to deal with my computer running constant visual movement as well as sound, and then also power the external hard drive. When you rob all of that into consideration, 9 hours is simply amazing. Now, I wasn't watching movies from an external drive the whole time, so if you go plugging an external drive from moment 1 and expect 9 hours. . . you may only get 7 and a half or 8, but that is a lot of time for a battery to run adjectives of that. I got more than 14 hours while typing on a simple word processor, the power saver on auto, and the brightness at less than half. (Brightness wasn't all the way down, closer to 1/4th up the bar)
The general use time (for me general use constitutes emails, instant messaging, writing, reading webpages, and youtube videos beside headphones) is usually pretty consistant around 11 or 12 hours depending on how high the brightness is and how much of that time is spent watching videos.
FINAL THOUGHTS:
Any battery can last much longer if you have your settings set to the very lowest you can and you cut back on intensive things like media, and consequently stick to running only one or two programs. The less you tax your computer, the longer your battery will last. I haven't even needed to DO that with this battery because even at medium, or near atmosphere settings it way overpowers anything I need. I am someone who has never had a battery that lasted me more than 3 hours, so for me, this is a massive improvement.
If you want a media battery, this is the one. I mull over you would be hard pressed to find any battery for any laptop that allows this much time while playing movies off of external devices that also need power from what its connected to.
With other batteries you could get away from an outlet, but after a few hours you have to tote your way back to an outlet and own your charger with you. This battery lets you charge it at night, take it out all day for a nice time in the park or local cafe, and never ONCE will you have to verbs about bringing the power cables.
If either of the above two appeal to you at all, and you don't mind a tiny bit more bulk and weight. . . get this battery.
Like the title of my review says, it was awfully well one of the best 50 bucks I have ever spent. Its been nearly half a year now, and I have never felt so COMPLETELY wireless before.
Battery lasts forever! April 22, 2009I love my 1000H Asus Eee, so I considered necessary to improve the already stunning battery life and bought this 10 cell...
I am amazed at the run time now.. In the last 2 or 3 days, I have been getting 11 to 12 hours runtime from a charge. This is simply amazing to me.
When Eee was new, I wipe off XP and installed Ubuntu Linux, upgraded memory to 2 gigs, , power saving settings are turned on, cpu scales up or down as needed from 800mhz to 1.6ghz. I use the wireless connection method, and bluetooth to tether my cell phone / Internet.
I run screen full bright but allow screen to dim after 2 or 3 minutes of non-use, then screen shuts off after 5 minutes. Eee stays on unless I close the lid for suspend.
The physical batt sticks out towards the back surrounded by a nice way, but it doesnt seem to change the attitude of the unit, and actually gives you something to hold on to when you carry it...
Great deal at $99 bucks...get one you wont regret it.

5-star contained by 1000, 3-star in 901 May 5, 2009I got this battery for a Asus eeePC 901GO. Battery fits into the battery perfectly, BUT the form factor is designed for the larger eeePC 1000, so you have about a half cell on each side protruding out to the side - doesn't look that nice and probably can't bring back any matching case.
After first charge gets about 8-9 hours per battery meter with WiFi, BT enabled and processor not running in power save more.
Sumary: Battery works great, but form factor could be optimized for the 901 series.
Does Not fit 1000HE June 14, 2010I can't comment on how long the battery last as it wont fit my 1000HE, the wings interfere with the item's ability to latch into the battery tray....
It may work with other models....but it sure doesn't with the 1000HE!
Battery almost twice the capacity of stock but some quirks August 30, 2010These reviews are based of my Asus 1000H next to Win7 Home Premium
First off as you may see, the battery is considerably larger. Not only does it stick out on the sides, but is also taller than the stock battery. Another reviewer stated that the side "wings" are just empty plastic but I doubt he/she has opened it to check. If you compare the stock battery(6cell) to this, and you assume the individual cells contained by both batteries are the same size, logically there must be cells in the wings. The four extra cells seem to be placed end to bring to a close on one row.
Due to the increased size, you won't be able to fully open the screen. Meaning with stock battery I could open the screen almost 160degrees (who knows, I just know it go almost flat) Now however, it swings open roughly 10 degrees (I just guessed on this number) less. Not a big deal to some.
Another thing to note, on a flat surface, this does not change the angle of the laptop. The way the extra bulk is positioned, the flipside feet of the laptop still grip the table.
Now for the capabilities: With Win7 Home, I usually leave it on balanced power settings (win7 defaults) on Super Performance Mode, WiFi on, BT off, brightness 50-100%. With stock battery that gave me around 3 hours on a 6cell. On this battery it gives me slightly more than 6 hours. I'd picture a bigger gain if I optimized my power more.
There is one big issue with this battery I have found. Your Window's battery notification icon will no longer work. While it will display battery percentage, it will not give an estimation of time. A small red x will appear and not go away. When highlighted, where the time would as a rule appear it will constantly say "Consider replacing your battery" Clicking on it and it will say "There is a problem with your battery, so your computer may shut down suddenly"
Boo.
I researched the problem and it seems to be a problem with the chip on the battery and the way Windows interacts with the chip.
I've installed several programs and widgets to diagnose the battery-operated and to properly display the remaining time.
I use Battery Meter to display time.
I've used Battery Care, BatteryMon, and used powercfg -energy in elevated cmd to determine battery problems and details.
All three reports list maximum, or design battery capacity at around 549,000 mWh, or equivalent, 68,000mAh. This is unrealistic and not true. This has to be an error with the chip. I have dual-booted this laptop into OSX 10.3 and it also reports similar numbers.
All three reports state that the maximum charge attained is around 91,000mWh, or 11,000-12,000mAh. Which is what this battery is rate for.
Another problem is each of the various battery monitoring programs I have give differing time amounts. as of right now, my battery is at 88%. Battery Care is giving me 4:50 remaining, Battery Meter is giving me 5:56, and BatteryMon is giving me 5:26.
While this whole issue is exceedingly annoying, the battery so far is working as expected. It has doubled my running time.
Also another reviewer has written that the company suggests that after 5 full discharges this problem will go away. Reviewer said that does not fix it. I do not know yet, as I have only done 3 full discharges. I may update if the situation changes.
Doesn't really last that long... November 25, 2009I enjoy an Asus 1000h with 2gb RAM, 128gb SSD and Windows 7 Home Premium x32 installed. The battery integrates well with the body but those side extensions are only plastics.. no batteries in them. The main battery body isn't that much bigger than the regular freestyle, it juts out a bit but doesn't raise the back at all. When the battery arrived the battery life meter wasn't working but the percentage charge would show and it showed a red 'x' and 'consider replacing the battery' warning. I contacted the seller and he instructed me to charge/discharge the battery 5 times but it still have the same warnings. He sent me another battery and that too had the same problem. I used another battery metering program and it estimated I had 6-7hrs of battery life. That's if truth be told better than the 4hrs I've been getting from the original battery. My usual settings are wi-fi on, middle brightness, internet browsing and e-mail on max performance. Videos on the internet are choppy on balance mode and unwatchable on power savings mode so I always have it on max performance. The warning are a minor inconvenience and I can live with it so I kept the battery. On power saving, 1/4 dim, no wi-fi the meter showed 8 hrs max but once you start working the rating goes down. Realistically no one works on with a dim screen. At least this battery will flood the boredom on long trips by watching videos and listening to music.
New Notebook Battery. Very pleased. August 15, 2010Very pleased. Adds a lot of extra work time to notebook. However it does add a lot of extra weight which I don't mind because I need the extra time so I think it was a great trade-off.
